Plaque column in the Marian Square built in 1718-1721 by sculptor Antonín Riga to express the gratitude of the inhabitants of the town after the plague epidemic in 1715 had been warded off. Distance from the hotel is about 900 m.

 

Uherske Hradiste

When walking round the royal town of Uherské Hradiště, do not pass up to give your attention to the sights we recommend to you:

A complex of Jesuit buildings in Masaryk Square. It consists of a former Jesuit college (built in 1654-1662), the building of the former grammar school (built up in 1724-1729) with a new theatre and concert hall called the Reduta and the St. Francis Xaverius Church (built up by Jan Jeroným Caneval in 1670-1685 by the project of Dominik Orsi). The whole complex was built in the baroque style and some very famous artists, for example the painters Jan Jiří Heintsch, Ignac Raab and the sculptor Ondřej Schweigel took part in its building and decoration. Distance from the hotel - 700 m.
A Virgin Mary Annunciation Church is a part of the Franciscan monastery complex. The original gothic church was built at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. The only original parts surviving are the peripheral walls with gothic pointed arched windows and the supporting pillars by the presbytery. The Franciscan monastery complex was found in 1491 and rebuilt in the baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century. The most important room of the monastery is a refectory with an extra ordinary art decoration built-up by Italian artist from Baltazar Fontana constituency. Distance from the hotel is 700 m.

St. Sebastian Chapel was built in 1715 by the imperial military garrison in memory of the great plague. Our guests can view this interesting monument right from the windows of the Best Western Grand Hotel because it is a part of Palacký Square.

Synagogue was built in 1875 in a historicist eclectic style, in 1904 was rebuilt in the Art Nouveaue style with the addition of an arched copula. In the Second World War, it was ransacked and set alight by the Nazis. After the war, it was renovated and used for cultural purposes. From the year 1967, it is a site of the Bedřich Buchlovan town Library. Distance from the hotel is 900 m.

The Moravian Slovak Museum stands on the site of the former town wooden firing range in the Smetana Gardens. Visitors can have a look at a permanent exhibition called “Slovácko”. There are regular ethnographic, historical and archeological exhibitions in the next halls. Distance from the hotel is 500 m.

The gallery building of the Moravian Slovak Museum was built between the years 1721-1723 as an imperial armoury. The gallery offers a permanent exhibition of “Southeastern Moravian Art” and in its next halls it offers exhibitions of local and foreign artists. Courtyard of the gallery as well as the halls are used for concerts and cultural events. Distance from the hotel is 600 m.

Buchlovice Chateau - national cultural monument

A baroque object in Italian villa style, one of the charming chateaus in Moravia. Interiors are rich and furnished with original arrangements. The chateau is surrounded by a beautiful English park. You can visit here a yard of wild animals and a wine gallery in the chateau cell. (12 km)

Buchlov Castle - national cultural monument

Buchlov Castle is one of the best-known Gothic castles in Moravia. There are placed, beside the original arrangement of the castle, naturalistic collections and a library. (16 km)

Velehrad - Basilica of Assumption of Virgin Mary

One of the most significant pilgrimage places in Moravia - and the third biggest building of its kind in the Czech Republic. At the beginning of the 13th century the first Cistercian monastery in Moravia was built here. Velehrad Monastery and Basilica got the present-day form at the turn of the 17th and the 18th centuries. There is a stone collection as a part of area. Velehrad is situated about 7 km northwest of Uherske Hradiste.

 

Great Moravia Memorial in Stare Mesto - national cultural monument

Basement of a church, the first discovered and certified building from the time of the Great Moravia, and objects found in a rich burial-ground form an impressive exposition that documents this significant period of Moravian history. (3 km)

 

Bata Canal

Bata Canal cruise can make your stay in Uherske Hradiste pleasant. Today it is already historical waterway built in the 30’s of the last century for 50 km long. Partly it leads down the river Morava, otherwise along the artificial channel with a line of floating wears with sliding boards and water valves, lock chambers and other water sites. A dockyard is distant about 2 km.
